The Kills reveal details of their new album
by Emily Zemler Jan 20, 2011 at 5:31 PM
.
The Kills have a new album Blood Pressures coming out on April 5, and from the sound of things, it may be a bit different than the duo’s previous releases. Jamie Hince, guitarist/producer for the group, recently spoke with SPIN.com about the forthcoming record.
.
The record was recorded at the Key Club Studios in Michigan with engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins, who also worked on the band’s last album Midnight Boom. The trick, though, was finding time to make an album since Hince’s bandmate Alison Mosshart has been so busy with her other band—the Dead Weather. In the end, the two would end up writing separately for the disc. “At the start, I was a bit sad about that,” Hince told SPIN.com. “But as time went on, it was less of a compromise. It freed me up to try a lot of things. Alison would come back from Dead Weather tours with songs she had written in a hotel room on acoustic guitar.”
.
Mosshart’s work with the Dead Weather was also a bonus for the Kills, according to Hince. “She was fronting a four-piece rock band with amps stacked to the ceiling, and she’s singing over those guys playing loud,” he said. “It gave her a completely new and different confidence… and opened her up to feeling like she could see an idea turned into something quite enormous.”
