  • Yelawolf talks upcoming album

by Emily Zemler Jan 28, 2011 at 11:39 AM

    .

SPIN.com spoke with Yelawolf this week and it sounds like the up-and-coming Southern rapper is already hard at work on his new album Radioactive. Yela, who was recently signed to Eminem’s Shady Records, said he’s been too focused to even enjoy the signing.

    .

“I called my mama,” the rapper, who recently dropped his killer retail mixtape Trunk Muzik 0-60, said of inking his deal with Shady. “She like boo-hoo cried. But I’m way too focused to celebrate. As soon as I found out it was official, I started pacing left and right, like, ‘What’s the album gonna sound like? Next, next, next, next, next.’ I’ll celebrate eventually.”

    .

So what is that next album going to sound like? Probably not your typical mainstream hip-hop fare. “I’ve got a few inspirational records, records for people to stay motivated,” Yelawolf said. “Not giving up, the American tale, using my blue-collar experiences, you know? I want to be a voice for those people and not get all ‘poppin’ bottles in the V.I.P’ or some shit.” He added, “Anyone can relate to struggle, whether you’re European or Asian. Anyone can relate to having to get up and go to work and eat. I’m a small town boy, my grandparents retired from factories and shit, so I have an appreciation for that. I think hip-hop’s ready for it.”

  • Kid Cudi to release album, mixtape, film this year

by Emily Zemler Jan 28, 2011 at 11:03 AM

    .

It looks like Kid Cudi is wasting no time in prepping new music for his fans. Cudi, who dropped his sophomore album Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager back in November, said via Twitter this week that he’s planning to release his third album sometime this year—a pretty quick turnaround, if you ask us.

    .

“Pushing for a summer release of the wizard album. I produce and play guitar on everything with my main man @dotdagenius. He’s learnin bass,” Cudi tweeted on Wednesday, referring to his ‘Day N Nite’ producer. He added, “Wizard is a rock album, no raps, just singing. Brand new thing. Flavor.”

    .

Cudi also mentioned that his new disc may include a longtime fan-favorite track. “‘Dose of dopeness’ however will be on the wizard album as a bonus jam,” Cudi said of  a song fans have been craving for some time now. “Bout fuckin time aye.”

  • Katy Perry discusses upcoming tour

by Emily Zemler Jan 28, 2011 at 10:52 AM

    .

Have you ever wondered what Katy Perry eats? In a recent interview with Rolling Stone about her upcoming world tour, Perry revealed she’s basically on a diet, except for on Sundays when she eats junk food. This is apparently how a famous pop star prepares for a world tour.

    .

“After this interview I’m going to have a nice healthy breakfast,” Perry said. “I’m on a meal plan, which absolutely sucks— but on Sundays I get to have a cheat day where I go buck wild and eat In-N-Out Burger. Then I’ll work out, go to a vocal lesson, run through the entire set at rehearsals, go to dance rehearsal until 10:00 p.m. and then go home and sort through e-mails concerning the production. I feel like I’m training for the Olympics!”

    .

It really is sort of like the Olympics since it’s Perry’s first-ever headlining arena tour. And it sounds like the singer has some big things in store for fans who manage to snag a ticket when they go on sale this weekend. “I just really want to raise the bar,” the pop star said of her tour. “Touring is no longer an ordinary thing where you play an instrument in jeans and a T-shirt. It has some pizazz these days, and I’m definitely bringing the pizazz with a lot of bells and whistles. The show has a Broadway feel to it. It’s got a storyline that’s going to be very interesting, kind of loosely based on my life, but a cartoon version.”
