According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher. After a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student lavishly for the sweet water. The young man returned to his village with a happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become stale because of the old leather container. The student challenged his teacher: "Master, the water was foul. Why did you pretend to like it?"
The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter."
I think we understand this lesson best when we receive innocent gifts of love from young children. Whether it's a ceramic tray or a macaroni bracelet, the natural and proper response is appreciation and expressed thankfulness because we love the idea within the gift.
Gratitude doesn't always come naturally. Unfortunately, most children and many adults value only the thing given rather than the feeling embodied in it. We should remind ourselves and teach our children about the beauty and purity of feelings and expressions of gratitude. After all, gifts from the heart are really gifts of the heart.  Thank you for your gift of friendship it means a great deal to me, being a lone an all.  Bless you always.

    My thoughts on Valentines Day..........................................................................................................
"I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you."

    THE CHICKEN

Once upon a time, there was a large mountainside, where an eagle's nest rested. The eagle's nest contained four large eagle eggs. One day an earthquake rocked the mountain causing one of the eggs to roll down the mountain, to a chicken farm, located in the valley below. The chickens knew that they must protect and care for the eagle's egg, so an old hen volunteered to nurture and raise the large egg.
One day, the egg hatched and a beautiful eagle was born. Sadly, however, the eagle was raised to be a chicken. Soon, the eagle believed he was nothing more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the skies above and noticed a group of mighty eagles soaring in the skies. "Oh," the eagle cried, "I wish I could soar like those birds." The chickens roared with laughter, "You cannot soar with those birds. You are a chicken and chickens do not soar."
The eagle continued staring, at his real family up above, dreaming that he could be with them. Each time the eagle would let his dreams be known, he was told it couldn't be done. That is what the eagle learned to believe. The eagle, after time, stopped dreaming and continued to live his life like a chicken. Finally, after a long life as a chicken, the eagle passed away.
The moral of the story: You become what you believe you are; so if you ever dream to become an eagle follow your dreams.

    New Year’s Reflections

Looking back on the months gone by,
As a new year starts and an old one ends,
We contemplate what brought us joy,
And we think of our loved ones and our friends.

    Recalling all the happy times,
Remembering how they enriched our lives,
We reflect upon who really counts,
As the fresh and bright new year arrives.

And when I ponder those who do,
    I immediately think of you.

Thanks for being one of the reasons I We'll have a Happy New Year!

    WISHES DO COME TRUE
    October 17, 2010

31 Years ago I was a lonely and alone young man with little direction and not too much to offer.  I was so bold as to pray and WISH for someone so I woulnd't be alone.  I found her and she has been with me for 31 years and we have been married for 29 years today.
Dreams do come true, not always the way we WISH but they do come true and it's up to us to see them and know them as such.  Getting married or being a friend is too often mistaken for only being a happy adventure where we all smile and giggle as the goal, but in truth it is much more.  It is being there, knowing that each morning as we awaken that we have a partner, a friendly lover who will see their way through the twists and turns of life together with you in the best way that we know how.
It is in knowing that whatever happens today that my friend is with me and that the respect, commitment and love can shine through.  My new wish is that you too will find intimate and important friends that love you and that in some way we may be counted among your friends along the way too.

All my Best WISHES to you,
    Bobby

    Changes in Life

In every change that you experience in life,
there will be times when you'll wonder if you can endure.
But you'll learn that facing each difficulty one by one isn't so hard.
It's when you don't deal with a situation that if sometimes comes back to confront you again.
    Changes are sometimes very painful,
but they teach us that we can endure
and that we can become stronger.
Everything that comes into your life has a purpose,
but the outcome is in your hands by the action you take.
    Be wise with your life,
    be willing to endure,
and always be willing to face life's challenges.

Thank you for brightening my world
    with your thoughtfulness.
    It really meant a lot.
Thank you for being my friend on my space.

    PORTRAIT OF A FRIEND

I can't give solutions to all of life's problems, doubts,
or fears. But I can listen to you, and together we will
    search for answers.
I can't change your past with all its heartache and pain,
or the future with its untold stories.
But I can be there now when you need me to care.
I can't keep your feet from stumbling.
I can only offer my hand that you may grasp it and not fall.
    Your joys, triumphs, successes, and happiness are not mine;
yet I can share in your laughter.
    Your decisions in life are not mine to make, or to judge;
I can only support you, encourage you,
and help you when you ask.
I can't prevent you from falling away from friendship, from your values, from me.
I can only pray for you, talk to you and wait for you.
I can't give you boundaries which I have determined for you,
but I can give you the room to change, room to grow,
    room to be yourself.
I can't keep your heart from breaking and hurting,
but I can cry with you and help you pick up the pieces
and put them back in place.
I can't tell you who you are.
I can only be one of the best friends you have ever had.

    My Friend,
In that place where I stand by myself all apart I was discovered by a friend who admired my heart.
This new friend was quite kind with a gentle old soul and he fed me freely there was never a toll.
He was firm he was good he was never coy and my time with him peaceful so filled up with joy.
We would talk and play chess or shoot hoops for fun, we were happy and settled sometimes like two turned to one.
The best of all times when there was nothing to do was being still being silent then he'd say, "I love being with you."
Then one day it was cold, but the sun shown its light and the look was deceiving because the day was so bright.
I could see that my friend he was sad and unwell, he was ready to leave but to where couldn't tell.
I pleaded then begged and I prayed he could stay but it wasn't too long he was gone on his way.
When I think of his wonder or the fun that we had I rarely feel bitter and don't want to feel bad.
I pass the basketball court where we found so much joy and I miss him so much that I cry as a boy.
I don't want to destroy the beauty we shared or his love or his heart that for me so freely cared.
And I'm ready again if there should happen a friend, I have opened my heart and toward welcome will tend.
