The idea behind Metaphra, like the namesake, is to create a completely new and original sound; unrestricted by genre or musical structure, exercising the freedom to experiment with any sound imaginable using a blend of electronic, live instruments and cutting edge sound design. Metaphra are Richard Gale and Marie Orchid. Marie's powerful vocals effortlessly cut through the lush soundscapes and she is able to transform her incredible voice to glide seamlessly over the groove no matter how gentle or aggressive. The lyrical themes range from political and social commentary to the fantastical and magical. For inspiration they draw upon Trip-Hop, Electronica, Drum and Bass and Dubstep, resulting in beautiful yet abstract melodies, underpinned by pulsating rhythms and futuristic stabs and splashes. The influence of the rugged Atlantic coast of Cornwall, where they are based, is also evident throughout their music. Sounds Like
Whilst producing our music we never set out to create a particular sound, however we have been heavily influenced by our past musical experiences and involvement. There are elements of metal, rock, dubstep, drum n bass, trip hop and even some ambient moments within our music, but like we mentioned before we would not like to restrict our sound as we love to experiment. Marie spent the last ten years mixing vinyl, mainly old skool jungle and drum and bass on pirate radio, internet radio in clubs and at free underground parties up and down the country, as well as being signed to Loaf Recordings singing over experimental electronica. Richard Gale has played countless live electronica sets at free parties and clubs around the UK for the past decade and was also crowned UK Laptop Battle Champion in 2006 and 2007. He is also currently signed to Sub-Tek Records producing groundbreaking drum and bass.
