The Lost Patrol began in the late 1990's as an experimental project of soundtrack music. The band consists of musicians/writers Mollie Israel, Stephen Masucci and Michael Williams. Their music is characterized by lush, resounding electric and acoustic guitars, deep synth textures and, most importantly, hauntingly distinctive female vocals.
Although some of the names and faces have changed over the band’s brief history, their signature eclectic soundscapes and captivating timelessness remained a constant throughout their vast body of work. It was only after finding vocalist Mollie Israel in early 2008 that The Lost Patrol gained a new strength and consistency in both the writing and performing they needed to complete their most powerful lineup to date. Assisting in the bands recording efforts over the years is Grammy Award winning engineer Larry Alexander, who has worked with other notables such as Sisters of Mercy, Suicide, and David Bowie.
Over the past few years, their albums "Midnight Matinee" (2008) and "Dark Matter" (2010) have received much critical acclaim. Both albums reached the #1 slot for multiple weeks on various CMJ charts. Additionally, these releases made several top album lists of 2008 and 2010, respectively. The band has been featured in New York’s longstanding music magazine, The Big Takeover and were given nods from Magnet Magazine on the video work for their songs "Nobody There" and "Calling Your Own Name", both of which were directed by Mollie Israel. The Lost Patrol's music has also received positive recognition from fans and critics around the globe, including Australia, Serbia, Japan, Italy, Spain, and Peru - transcending the borders of nations and genres and creating a world of its own.
Since early 2010, The Lost Patrol have been gaining momentum with music placement in The CW's hit television show 'Gossip Girl', and noted film director Hal Hartley's new project 'Meanwhile'. The band will also appear on the big screen in writer/director Amy Heckerling's new film 'Vamps' (2012) with tracks from their albums 'Midnight Matinee', 'Dark Matter' and some new music from their 2011 release 'Rocket Surgery.
The Lost Patrol continues to grow and evolve with their elegant mixture of cinematic soundscapes and retro-futuristic pop, playing live performances on both the east and west coasts. Some of their favorite tour spots include New York, Nashville, Detroit, and Los Angeles, where they have had the immense pleasure of playing the world famous Whisky A Go Go.

Press & Reviews

THE BIG TAKEOVER - JACK RABID
Not all bands influenced by The Chameleons (U.K.) are good, but many are. Case in point: this decade-old, prolific, greater New York trio, which spin off some of that Manchester group's darker, gothier tones from Strange Times, adding darkwave guitar and goth-synth ambiance on Midnight. Even more, one can't help but think of Hyaena Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Top Cure (both featuring Robert Smith) with a little of the earliest Cocteau Twins and X-Mal Deutschland (even Ocean Rain Bunnymen on 'Blue Lullabies'), especially with new singer MOLLIE ISRAEL'S silky pipes. And it's impressive that mastermind guitarist STEPHEN MASUCCI can't resist liberal doses of terrific Dick Dale twang and shudder too. Does it matter that England has been transported wholesale to our shores? Not with a sound this cavernous; Midnight is an ambitious joy...

NBC-4.COM
Ethereal, mysterious, achingly beautiful... New York-area indie-rockers The Lost Patrol have been operating under the radar for years, releasing a string of terrific albums. Perfect for perhaps a David Lynch film, or maybe, better yet, for sitting outside on a warm night gazing at stars...

SCHOLARS & ROGUES
Genre? Good luck. Its aching beauty, bespeaking a loneliness bigger than the Wyoming sky at dusk, argues for a spot on the fringes of Goth. The reverberating twang of Steve Masucci's guitars reminds me not of Country, but of traditional Western. While it's not industrial by any stretch, it's right at home on a playlist with bands like Fiction 8 and The Birthday Massacre. Fans of DreamPop and Shoegazer will have no problem slotting it alongside Lush, Catherine Wheel, Blonde Redhead or The Raveonettes. And I think somebody needs to put 'Blue Lullabies' in the soundtrack of a surfing flick...

LEEDS MUSIC SCENE
Right from the first track you feel like you have been transported into a Tarantino movie, you can practically taste cigarettes and tequila. The guitar style, reminiscent of Tito &Tarantula or Johnny Marr, feels relaxed and effortless. The combination of the acoustic guitars and the electric guitars work really well throughout the album. The former give the songs a warm settling feeling and the latter rest on otherworldly and illustrative...

OC WEEKLY
Sprung from the wells of Shadows and Ventures vinyls and a deep love for Siouxsie while others lusted for metal, the Lost Patrol found each other swimming around New York City in the late '90s. Swaying from surf twang to goth wave to western acoustic, each of Lost Patrol's genre-bending songs adds a gauzy layer to their ethereal foundation. After finding fire-haired singer Mollie Isreal in 2008 (think an opium-laced, & '80s Allison Goldfrapp), the group congealed into a super solid band.

BLANK POINT BY (SIC) THINGS PRODUCTIONS
I found this album more than addictive, it's ~seductive~. Every time I put it on I was lured to it, pulled from away from whatever I was doing to pay attention to the music. This may be rock on the quieter side but it holds my attention all the more for its restraint...

THE FREE PRESS, KINSTON, NC
...The Lost Patrol has been creating spooky, film-noir pop for quite a while, and its new album ("Midnight Matinee") may be the crown jewel in the group's catalog...

THE MOBTOWN SHANK
...Were David Lynch to direct a spaghetti western featuring a climactic showdown between Carl Sagan and Carlos Castaneda, The Lost Patrol might provide the perfect soundtrack. Hailing from the greater New York City area, the band's unique sound reflects a seemingly bottomless well of influences ranging from Morricone to Dick Dale to Joy Division...

[SIC] MAGAZINE
...All the trademark Lost Patrol elements are there - the soaring siren vocal, that delayed Mosrite twang, the dreamy, child-like imagery. Sugar and spice and all things nice. That could be TLPs motto...

RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH
...It was Jimi Hendrix who strangely intoned more than 35 years ago that "you will never hear surf music again" He was half-right. The Lost Patrol at least proves that you'll never hear surf music in the same way again...

MUSICAL DISCOVERIES
...While the loss of a longtime lead singer might devastate some bands, the addition of Mollie Israel appears to have given creative inspiration to The Lost Patrol. EXIT WEEKLY MAGAZINE
...Mesh Mazzy Star's dark daze-inducing sensibilities, Neko Case's resonating contemporary twang inflections and the dreamlike and surreal soundscapes that serve as a backdrop in every psyche-distorting David Lynch film and you get a brief glimmer of The Lost Patrol. • Bio

The Lost Patrol is a critically acclaimed band hailing from greater New York City. Their music is an ever evolving, genre-defying wall of sound that has been likened to everything from gothic spaghetti western to experimental surf. Characterized by twangy-ethereal electric guitars, lush acoustic twelve strings, deep synth textures, and sirenic vocals, their cinematic mish-mash of sounds has clear connections to the band’s bottomless well of influences - yet the music of The Lost Patrol is a unique amalgamation unto its own. “We’ve jokingly assembled a list of artists that people have compared us to, and the number is well over 100 - with no rhyme or reason,” quips Stephen Masucci, the band’s founder. Masucci, born and raised in Rockland County, New York, recalls his obsession with music at an early age. “My dad used to play me old Shadows and Ventures vinyl, and it was from those records where the music of The Lost Patrol derives some of its earliest inspiration.” Michael Williams (TLP’s rhythm guitarist) is originally from Rhode Island, but eventually took up residence in the New Jersey suburbs where he immediately set himself apart from the mainstream. “Everyone was a metalhead or a classic rocker, which was cool, but I preferred Siouxsie & The Banshees.” Williams was a de facto member of the band from the beginning through his album artwork; however, he became a full-fledged member by 2003. In earnest, The Lost Patrol formed as an experimental project of instrumental soundtrack music that was to be an extension of Masucci’s contributions to auteur, Hal Hartley’s films Flirt and The Book of Life. Although the faces have changed over the band’s brief history, their signature eclectic soundscapes and captivating timelessness remained a constant throughout their vast body of work. Lending his efforts to the mastering process over the years is Grammy winner, Larry Alexander (Sisters of Mercy, Suicide and David Bowie).Joining forces with The Lost Patrol as lead vocalist in early 2008, is L.A. born Mollie Israel, who is the daughter of noted filmmaker, Amy Heckerling. Masucci heeded the advice of a friend suggesting that he scour Craig’s List looking for singer-songwriters. Eventually, he would stumble upon Israel’s humorous ad. While Israel had no experience playing in a band other than a few open mic and karaoke nights, she is a classically trained harpist and self-taught guitarist. Like many other young musicians of the new paradigm, she began writing and recording her own songs using the latest software. After belting out her audition, both Masucci and Williams were convinced that they had found their girl. “The chemistry was instantaneous!” Williams boasts. “I was looking to join a band for a while - and I even contacted a few of them, but everything that I heard was pretty cookie cutter,” says Israel. “After recording our first song, I knew this would work,” states Masucci. After only a few months of working with the band, Israel was already earning her stripes in the live setting, and shortly thereafter, the band came out with their seventh proper release, Midnight Matinee. Aside from receiving much critical acclaim, the album reached the 1 slot for multiple weeks on the Rutgers CMJ charts in the fall of 2008 and winter of 2009. Additionally, Matinee made the 2008 top albums list of Scholars & Rogues in Denver, Colorado, which also included the likes of R.E.M. and Nine Inch Nails. The Lost Patrol is currently in the studio writing and recording their next album, which is slated for an early 2010 release. In addition to playing up and down the east coast, the band has expanded their touring to the west coast, where they had the immense pleasure and privilege of playing the world famous Whisky A Go Go on the fabulous Sunset Strip. While The Lost Patrol still maintains their elegant mixture of cinematic soundscapes and retro-futuristic pop, they continue to grow and evolve with their most powerful lineup to date. The band’s music has received positive recognition from fans and critics around the globe, including far-off places such as Australia, Serbia, Japan and Peru - transcending the borders of nations and genres and creating a world of its own.,,
