Bio:

Kulyela started his career back in 1998 with a track called “Who Is The Enemy”, released by the label Business Class. The track represented the possibilities of blending instrumental hip hop with the more edgy and disharmonic notes of free jazz.

Along with that track there were other incomplete sketches of six other songs, partly because Tsunami Music was not yet to become real until a year later. As a consequence, Kulyela employed his time in producing Mandalas’ single “Metal Magic Zone / Dream Machine” and the ambitious Five Mix Colors’ debut album “This Is Spectral Jazz”, which kept him busy until late 2001. During 2003, Kulyela produced Mandalas’ “The Golden Shore” and Five Mix Colors’ “Urban Beatz”A, both of them for Tsunami Music.

In December 2004, his debut album, “The Enemy Within”, is released. According to Kulyela, “to develop some of the tracks I need to stack tons of samples, not all of them coherent, and afterwards I put order to the apparent chaos organising rhythms or rebuilding bass or sax lines. Anything can inspire a track: a solid bass line, a furious trumpet riff appearing in the middle of an improvisation, etc. Actually, it’s like pulling a cord.” We’ve some fast and short songs, like “Dust” and “Enemy”, that owe much to the spirit and writing ideas of hardcore, or “Proud”, close to cinematic drum’n’bass.

KULYELA inició su andadura allá por 1998 en un corte titulado “Who Is The Enemy”, publicado en el sello Business Class. El tema recogía las posibilidades de la fusión del hip hop instrumental con las abrasivas notas disarmónicas del free-jazz.

Junto con aquel tema quedaron inconclusos los esbozos embrionarios de seis temas más, en parte porque Tsunami todavía no sería una realidad hasta al año siguiente. De manera que Kulyela invirtió su tiempo en producir en junio del ’00 el single de Mandalas “MetalMagicZone / DreamMachine” y a finales del mismo año el ambicioso “This Is Spectral Jazz” de Five Mix Colors, producción ésta última que le mantuvo ocupado hasta bien entrado el ’01. Durante el 2003, Kulyela tomó las riendas de las producciones para Mandalas “the golden shore” y para Five Mix Colors con su “Urban beatz”, ambos trabajos para Tsunami Music.

En Diciembre del 2004 ve a la luz su primer largo, "The Enemy Within", que, según el mismo “Para desarrollar algunos cortes necesito ante todo apilar montones de muestras, no necesariamente coherentes entre si, tras lo cual ordeno el caos aparente, reordenado los ritmos o rehaciendo las líneas de bajo o saxo. De aquí que los temas contenidos en su primer trabajo tengan más bien una aparición casual, según aparezcan la melodía o el motivo principal. Cualquier cosa puede inspirar un tema: una línea de bajo sólida, un riff de trompeta en medio de una furiosa improvisación. De hecho es como tirar de un hilo”. Así tenemos temas rápidos y cortos, como “Dust” o “Enemy” que son deudores del espíritu y la actitud compositiva del hardcore, o "Proud" en una línea de drum'n'bass cinemático.
