If Hexamine is a band that’s hard to classify, it’s because of their very personal style, in which hard rock is blended with carefully elaborated melodies and electronic arrangements to produce music that is dynamic, versatile and free of complexes. Taking these characteristics with their powerful live performance, we can understand why there are an increasing number of people that want to see them in concert. This band, based in Vic (Barcelona), has no intention of following in the footsteps of other so-called ‘alternative’ groups: “When we started to compose our first songs, we were just doing what a lot of bands did, without innovating. But we didn’t want to be just another band and we began to do things in our own way”.>br> This important decision meant that every member of the band was free to bring out the music they had inside them, producing a very wide and varied range of songs without the group losing its own, very particular identity. Hexamine was created in summer 2006 by musicians from two different bands, Smarts and Sex Fucktory, both of which had been around for some considerable time, despite their youth. Nandu (vocals), Rayban (bass) and Roger (drums) had been playing for around six years with Smarts, a band with a big following and an EP that had come out just before the band broke up. Txiki (guitar) and Barton (DJ and samplers media) had been playing with Sex Fucktory, a band that was together for eleven years, had two promotional EPs, a large number of fans and had played more than 200 concerts around the country. In that sense Hexamine hasn’t come out of nothing, a fact reflected in their debut concert, when a lot of people turned up to listen to them. This band has a very solid project, something which is evident in the attitude of all the members of the group when it comes to getting down to work. The importance they place on doing things well has allowed them to record an EP with three songs and a video from their first single, Running in Circles, attracting a number of very positive reviews: “They make a very powerful sound with very little, and are no longer a mere experiment but a band with a certain presence and solidity”.
