BIO
Guillermo Calliero was born in Santa Fe, Argentina, in 1973. Being his father the trumpet player, pianist and director for Santa Fe´s Municipal Band, he encountered music at a very early age.
At age 7 he was a part of the Youth Municipal Band as well as starting his piano and trumpet studies at the city´s conservatory. In 1992 he moved to Buenos Aires where he received private tuition from Roberto "Fats" Fernández. He has participated in almost all the Jazz Festivals in Argentina and he has performed as well in Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, sharing stage and musical experiences with artists such as Santa Fé Jazz Ensamble Big Band, Creole Jazz Band, Luis Salinas, Junior Cesari, Paquito D´Rivera, Oscar Giunta, Hernán Jacinto, Javier Malosetti, Mariano Otero, Facundo Bergalli, Jorge Navarro, Mariano Mores, Santiago Giacobbe, Conrad Herwig & Alex Sanguinetti, among others.
In 1998 he joined "The Quinteto Argentina" & Karlheinz Miklin tour travelling throughout the Europe. They appeared in many Clubs and Festivals of Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
During that time was traveling on board the QueenMary2, where he was invited by the Carly Simon´s Orchestra to recording a live dvd in New York.
Calliero was collaborating in more than two hundred albums as a sideman, but in 2004 the Argentinian label MDR-Records released Guillermo's first album as a leader, "Dreams Become Reality". The album was extremely well received by the press, with great reviews and accolades. In 2005 he received the Best Jazz Trumpet Player Of The Year Award from the Argentinian newspaper "La Nación" Cesar Padrines.
In 2006 he moved to Barcelona, where he has played with spanish musicians like Perico Sambeat, Albert Bover, Javier Colina, Albert Sanz, Esteve Pi, among others and he started playing at diferents European Festivals, such a Jazz in Marciac (France), Zappanale (Germany), Jazzahead! (Germany), Festival Jazz de Vic (Barcelona), Festival Jazz de Barcelona, Festival Jazz de Málaga ....having a great time sharing stage during & after the concerts, with musicians likes Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove or Jesse Davis. Become one of the most demanded trumpets players in the Spanish musical scene, highlighting his participation in projects like Horacio Fumero Trio, Perico Sambeat Flamenco Big Band, Carlos Carli Cuarteto, Ed Neumeister & Big Band Jazz Terrassa, Filthy Habbits Ensemble, Iep! (Mariano Steimberg), Jordi Rossy, Bruce Arkin Quintet, Jammboree Big latin Band & Gospel Community of London, Fam de Funk, Barcelona Jazz orquesta & Ann Hampton Callaway, Alfons Carrascosa Big Band, Girona Jazz project Big band & Guillermo Klein, among others.
In 2010 the Spanish label Ayva released the second album as a solist of Guillermo Calliero Quartet, "Barcelona Hora Cero", Album that gets a nomination in Enderrocks Awards for the "Most Innovative project 2011", recorded in Barcelona with José Reinoso, Horacio Fumero, Perico Sambeat, Marcelo Mercadante, Martin Laportilla, Juan Berbin, Dani Dominguez y Enrique Oliver. This quartet is directly influenced with an argentinean tango and folkloric .
