.... Chicca was born on 26th August, 1985 in Battipaglia (SA) Italy, and grew up in Buccino, a village in the Salerno area, with little more than 6000 inhabitants. Early in her childhood she showed her great passion for music: she grabbed a microphone and organised musical performances any time she got the chance to do so, even in the dining room. In 2000 Chicca decided to get out of that small, cosy musical World of her own she’d built throughout the years and took part in a “Musical Project” organised in her town: there she made her debut. In that same year she joined, as leading singer, two cover bands: Black Out and Sound Makers, the band with which she sang and played until 2005. Chicca approached her musical instrument, the electric bass, only by chance: once that the band’s bassist was late for rehearsals she started toying with the bass, and they “made friends”. In a few days Chicca was the new band’s bassist! She then started playing by herself, but one year later she began to study with the jazz player Giuseppe La Sala. She decided to name her bass Patrick after Patrick Djivas, her favourite bassist. At that time, she felt she was ready to write her own songs, songs she decided were to be added to her band’s pop-rock repertoire. For five years Chicca and her band took part in local shows and competitions, like the Contursi Terme “Music Festival”, where they were awarded the first prize by Maestro Fineschi, President of the judging Committee In 2004 she and her band managed to be opening act to important artists’ shows, such as Raiz and Litfiba. In May 2005 she managed to get, thanks to a friend, an audition at Exclaim Productions, Filadelfo Castro and Massimo Maspero Record Label. A few months later, Chicca’s first album was finished. This album can be seen as a journey inside the artist, amongst feelings and emotions we all go through in our lives. The first song is called “The Fairy”: Chicca thinks we only have to take a look around to realise that none of us is ever really alone, but that there always is someone, or something, we can count on in the most difficult moments; it’s hardly surprising that she dedicates this song to music, her own fairy. “We all know life is not really life without friendship”. That’s what Cicero wrote in his De Amicitia. Chicca is clearly of the same advice, as both Hold Me and Linfa talk about friendship, that is, according to this artist, a real lymph, a vital essence. During this “musical journey” we also meet anger: anger that’s caused by disappointments, above all by love ones: we then go from the delicate La fragilità dell'essere to the more explicit Angry, to Parole, a song that, behind a cheerful and light-hearted arrangement reveals, ironically, a burning truth: too often we speak without thinking, and little do we realise that words are the most dangerous and cruel weapons we can use. By your side is a classical love song, while the sweet The wind still blows describes resignation for the end of a love story. To make our dreams come true we’ve got to fight with all our strength, we have to wait patiently for the right moment to come, because no matter how long we wait, no matter how much dust covers our dreams, one day something will bring them back to life, brighter than ever; that’s the message of Fighter. We’ve now completed our journey, we’re at the end of the album, and we find the sophisticated and touching Let your Spirit Soar. too often we think the World we live in doesn’t seem to suit us…why not create one of our own, then? We only have to learn to look inside ourselves to find our own World, our Happiness…only then will we be able to feel free to be who we really are. Let your Spirit Soar can be seen as Chicca’s “ visiting card”. She knows the World we live in is still too interested in fleeting values, and she doesn’t want to give up the precious freedom to be, simply, herself. “Being simply ourselves” implies the acceptance of our instinctive side as well. We find this “philosophy” in some of her artistic choices: the album has no title, it’s simply Chicca. We find songs in both Italian and English because inspiration has no boundaries, it’s the child of our instinctive side. The artistic project was conceived when Chicca and her artistic producer, Filadelfo Castro, met; this is an album that wants to be direct, essential, modern, international. This is an album that reflects the artist’s personality, her will to “dress her songs properly”. Great care was dedicated to every detail of this album; the arrangements were thought to be played, rather than listened to; the album has roots both in American rock ( The Fairy, Angry) and anglo-european pop (The wind still blows), it’s an album with high quality sound and performances, where we find both a craftsmanlike musical dimension and an high level product, thanks to the great people who participated in this project rather than to technology. A great care was used to make the songs in Italian sound more international, while the ones in English went through no such treatment; this was due not to xenomania, but to open the eyes, the ears and the heart of a World we deal with everyday.
