There are 565 Federally recognized Nations here in America and many others who are not recognized. If 2 delegate were chosen from each Nation, that would be 1,130 delegates to build the base of our voice.
The GOP and the DEM's get that many and more together for their conventions.
Then they vote on issues that affect them. Very rarely do you ever hear of an issue about health or jobs on our reservations. But you will hear about the issues of how can they take our profits and our land because of the minerals below.
There are 50 states and we have the right to register to vote in all of them.
Anybody can register under a party afiliation and then vote any way they want when the time comes.
This country is unsteady and it is not just the money that is the problem. However, the money issue only has two sides to it. A dollar bill can not stand against a wind while on its side. Maybe that is why the Two parties can not see how to even the wind for the Nation as a whole.
The founding fathers of this country established three branches of the government so that there would be a check and balance. Parts of the Constitution was borrowed (stolen) from the Iroquois Federation of Tribes. The Presidents oath of office was borrowed (stolen) from the many tribes who had leaders, to promise to protect the people.
Now, we have a chance to protect our people by establishing our own party that was the oldest party to start with. Think about it! the Libertarian party was the First Nations tring to win freedom. The Constitution Party was the First Nations pre amble to harmoney and peace. The Green Party was again, the First Nations because we protect the environment. The Independant Party was again the First Nations because we know we can do business with the world, without being "OF THE WORLD"
This Country knows of the plight of the Native Americans, but they were dupped into believing one thing and later found out the Truth. Our ancestors fought in the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the current struggles and this governement does not want the world to know what we have done. When there is a forest fire they call on our men to jump onto these fires and put them out, and they do. Our envolvement in the wildlife and the forests are paramount.
However, we continue to listen to promise after promise that the English break after they have our vote. We are made pledges only to hear they have no money to give to their pledge. And then read about trillions being spent for the wealthy banks and investors who sqandered billions of dollars and then needed to be bailed out. There are families who are losing their homes to foreclosure. There are jobs being lost and the economy is blamed. The trickle down bail out did not work!!
Instead of bailing out the rich, a structured program should have been implimented to secure the homes and give everybody time to bail out themselves. The trickle down did not work. 150 years ago the rich industrialist's came over the big water and then by the iron hourse to steal our land, our hunting grounds, children and food. They are coming over again to steal jobs. Just check out who owns the containers on the railroads. 80 - 85 % are owned by foreign companies who pay no road use tax. The construction and repair to these roads will go un-noticed until they have to tax the working man AGAIN. The trucking industry is losing jobs to the railroads and to the other companies who come here without paying the just tax to maintain the roads.
I do not want any more taxes in my life. BUT who will listen if I do not speak out. One voice is not enough. Would Custer still be dead if only one Native met the call at Little Big Horn? WE need to establish a steady TeePee by adding a pole to the race for all offices. Nobody needs to give up their Tribal affiliation or their lands to excersise this right to vote. If we want to steady this Land, we need to place our future on a tripod. One puts a camera on a tripod to get a steady shot.
Is it time to move forward? I think so, because I voted for change by casting a vote for the Native American who ran for office over the other two parties. That is right I voted for Change but not change of Ownership. Whose land did the Government chatle for the loans from China? You can bet it was not the Kenebunkport Maine property, or the Hamptons. You can bet it was not the Martha's Vineyard property or the Crawford ranch, but check out whose flag is flying over the Cherokee National Forest in Georgia. Who's flag is flying over the parks and forrests in your state.
Why do we have to accept the business as usual from these men and women who only like us at election time. Let our voice's be heard at every election from here on out. Instead of the pedulum swinging back and forth between these two parties, let us strive to balance the clock once and for all.
We all know how the League of Women Voters changed the face of the debates in all of these races. Why can we not now have a league of Native Voters. We have radio stations all over the land. We now havea a Television station who is working towards a 24/7 programing to entertain and inform all of our Nations. We have Independant Newspapers being printed by the Navajo, Mohawk, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla, and the Cherokee Phoenix. We have the foundation for our very own Political Party.
Once again, I ask for your help which requires no money to do so.
We all, Native, mixed, and no blood and can register as a "NAV" party member and then watch how fast the other two parties change their tune to negotiate with us. Be true to your heritage and work to protect your children.
In fact I have heard stories of our Nations members being barred to register this year to vote. That in itself is an outrage.
